ODB-II Architecture

The illustration below shows the overall architecture of ODB-II.

ODB-II uses a client-server software architecture. The interface between the client application and database server is a request at the level of the ODQL language. The database and associated methods execute on the server platform while the application logic and user interface execute on the client platform.

The client-server implementation allows one server to support multiple databases, and each client can access multiple databases on many servers.

The ODB-II base is a multi-client object manager that allows objects to be stored, retrieved, and updated in a heterogeneous environment. It runs on the server platform and provides all the object and database management functions.
